THE WOOL MARKET. THE LONDON FREE SALES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn —Copyright. Received April 17, 5.5 p.m. London, April 15. The free wool sales closed firm, the highest series of prices being about five per cent, above the opening prices. Crossbreds met with strong German competition. The total catalogued was 52,25'0 bales, and about 75 per cent, were sold. Good stapled sound merinos were in strong demand throughout, and closed at about 5 per cent, to 7 J per cent, below the March rates. Clothing sorts did not sell. The chief operators came from the Continent, especially Germany. Carding crossbreds were in good demand, with a hardening tendency. Preparing wools received no Continental support, and in the absence of a Yorkshire demand were often withdrawn. The reserves on combing slipes were above buyers’ ideas, and consequently were mostly withdrawn.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
