Silk goods valued at £5OO, consigned from England to Sydney in a zine-lined case, enclosed in a larger case, was pillaged. during the journey; the thieves extracting the silk through a 5-inch hole. INFANT DEATH-RATE. Sydney, April 12. Dr. Purdy, City Health Officer, has reported that the infantile mortality during the past six months has been abnortaally high, reaching over 10 per cent, in ’.January. The chief causes were Whooping cough, enteritis and diarrhoea. PRICE OF EXPORT WHEAT. Melbourne, April 12. The Wheat Board has decided to provide millers with wheat for gristing into flour for export at the worlds parity price. CARPENTERS’ AMALGAMATION Sydney, April 12. Carpenters throughout the Commonwealth have effected an amalgamation, with a total membership of 15,000.
