At a meeting last night of the executive of the Westport branch of the A.S.R.S. a resolution was passed expressing indignation at the treatment received by Mr. L. Mcllvride in the department’s refusal to grant him leave to contest .the Patea seat, and subsequently dismissing him, as- being contrary to Mr. Massey’s promise in Parliament that railwaymen had full civil and political rights. The resolution urged the executive to use every possible means to have the embargo immediately removed. The Westport Labor and Mechanics’ Union also carried a resolution of protest. —Press Association.
