EX-SERVICE IMMIGRANTS.
ARRIVAL OF LARGE PARTY. MANY FARM LABORERS. By Telegraph. —Pre-w Association Wellington, April 9. The steamer Shropshire arrived this afternoon, bringing 429 persons from the United Kingdom who have come out under arrangement with the New Zealand Government. There were 89 saloon and 340 third-class passengers. The third-class ojssengers consist almost entirely of ex-service men, who have come but- under the Imperial overseas settlement scheme. The majority are skilled workers. They are an excellent class of men, having been carefully selected by the New Zealand Government authorities at Home. There are between 80 and 90 skilled farm laborers and it is anticipated that owing to the present position of affairs agriculturally some difficulty will be' experienced by the Immigration Department in placing them at once. It is hoped satisfactory arrangements in this respect will be made next week.
