The Evening Mail’s Washington correspondent says it is understood France had despatched a Note to the United States previous to Mr. Hughes’ Note concerning mandates. It is naid France assumes the position that the Yap dispute affects only the United States and Japan and should be settled between them. Official circles in Washington consider this totally unsatisfactory to the United States, which contends that the Yap matter concerns all the Alites.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
