HOTEL THIEVES.

OPERATING IN WELLINGTON. INDICATIONS OF A GANG. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The sneak thief gang which operated in Palmerston North during Easter week in stealing money from bedrooms in hotels and boarding houses, has transferred itself to Wellington, according to the police. There are quite a number of people in Wellington already painfully aware of their presence here, and during the past three days a considerable number of thefts of money from bedrooms of hotels, private hotels and boarding houses have been reported. The thieves appear to be bent upon doing nothing by halves, and believe in making a clean sweep, as in some establishments all the temporarily unoccupied bedrooms have been visited, and whatever money has been left in coat pockets, handbags or drawers lias been taken. Individual losses of from £5 to £3O are quite common.
