CROQUET.

PLAYERS ENTERTAINED. At the Park Croquet Club’s courts yesterday afternoon a very pleasant afternoon was spent, when the A players were entertained by the B. players as a mark of apprecintn-n for the help given them during the season. As a result of tuition the younger players have improved considerably. During the afternoon tea interval Mrs. C. M. Hili' (club captain), presented Mrs. Collis, on behalf of the members, with a handsome bequet as a mark, of the esteem in she Is held. The recipient suitably replied. As an appreciation of the help given to the club during several seasons, a presentation was then made to Mrs. C. M. Hill by the croquet players, of a handsome crystal cutglass vase.

In making the presentation, Mrs. Collis mentioned the interest their captain hail taken in the club’s welfare in assisting young players to a knowledge of the game. Usually presentations were made when members were leaving the .club, but in this instance such was not the case. They had a club captain who had striven to popularise croquet, and members had shown marked improvement ’n the standard of play. Mrs. Hill thanked the members for their gift, and in doing so remarked that the kind thoughts which prompted! the presentation were even more acceptable. She loved the game, ancFhad been anxious to see all players improve, and she was well pleased with the progress made. The prizes won during the latter end of the season were then presented by the captain as under:— Handl,cap Doubles.—Mrs. G. McGahey, Doulton cup, saucer and plate, Mrs. Dickson shelley bowl. Progressive Tournament.—Mrs. Botitrill, fountain pen, 1, Mrs. S. Pride, box of handkerchiefs 2. Golf Croquet at Park.—Mrs. Fulton, chocolates, 1, Mrs. W. Hookham, l andkerchiefs, 2. Golf Croquet at “Maranui”—Mrs. Black, Indyin lace D’Oyley 1, Mrs. Dickson, Indian lace D’Oyley. 2. Consolation Prize.—Miss Hodder, vase, 1.
