WAIKATO LIGHT RAILWAY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Hamilton, April 7Mr. George Parr, chairman of the Waikato West Coast Light Railway Board, has received word from the engineers that an emineent Australian firm had made an offer- to finance the construction of the whole of the light' railways from Hamilton to Raglan and Kawhia and expect it will be possible to commence the construction almost immediately. TRADE UNIONS’ AMALGAMATION. Wellington, April 7. It is understood that a movement is afoot for the amalgamation of several trade unions in Wellington connected with the building industry. A conference will probably be held in a few days to consider details. The scheme, if adopted, may result in the pooling of funds at present cont'oiled by the individual unions and ultimately the amalgamation may become natunal. LYTTELTON FERRY SERVICE. Wellington, April 7.
Rumors are current here that the Union Co. contemplates withdrawing the Wahine and Maori from the Lyttelton ferry service during the winter months on the ground that they are unprofitable during the off season. The local office of the company states that it knows nothing of the matter. Dunedin, April 7.
The head office of the Union Company knows nothing of the rumor concerning the removal of both the Wahine and the Maori during the winter, but states it may be necessary in the dead of winter to substitute a small vessel for one of the present steamers.
