PUNGAREHU. (From Opr Own Correspondent.) The. bodies of the three Maoris, J. Rang!, M. Mitchell, P. Piranl, who were drowned In the boating fatality off the coast, have all been recovered. A tangi is at present in progress. One of the coastal Maoris, who had a severe cold and thinking he was in for an attack of Influenza, described .'he manner in which he cured himself. “Te Plue: Korry I did have him. Kakino te plue I” 1 * On Friday evening the attraction at Punlho will be the Euchre-party and dance, and there is every reason to anticipate extensive patronage from dancers and others. A very successful sale of work and produce stall was held in the Hempton Hail, Okato, on Thursday March 31. Favored with perfect weather, a number of people gathered frcuu all parts of the district. The sale was promoted by those connected with St. Paul’s church, and with the aid of friends secured a fine lot of articles for sale. The people of Okato are proverbially liberal in giving, and on this occasion were In no way behind former efforts in a good cause. Afternoon tea and supper under the able management of the ladies was a feature of the drty, and the few coins which the vendors failed to extract were expended in the grateful cup of tea. The total takings must be very gratifying to all concerned. The Euchre party and dance to be held in the Oakura Hall should prove to be attractive. On the 14th, a series of these functions commences, which the committee hope to hold fortnightly. Tke presentation of a points prize at the end of the season may do much to sustain interest~in the gatherings. An enjoyable evening is assured by all those who attend. Miss Simpson, relieving teacher, has arrived, being given temporary charge of the local school until the board intakes a permanent appointment. The Rahotu Football Club have got over* their initial pactice. It is the intention of the club officials ro enter two teams, a B senior and Junior, and are busy looking out likely .material for their respective teams. It seems certain with the players available that the club will be much stronger than lasi I year. ver J’ enjoyable day was spent by all the visitors . to the .beach on Sunday las;. Although we cannot boast of a sandy bpaclV or an esplanade, picnickers can generally make a good day of it. Car loads of picnickers arrived at Intervals all the day, one car coming from Stratford.
