ATHLETICS.
MANGATOKI sports. The Mangatoki sports, to have been held yesterday, were postponed until Tuesday, April 12. The concert and dance were held last night. MANAIA HIBERNIAN SPORTS. There is every indication that the Hibernian sports, which are to be held at the Recreation Grounds, Manaia, to-morrow, will be the most successful held in Taranaki this season. The programme drawn up is a very varied and attractive one. The athletic events have drawn record fields, runners froun all parts of Taranaki, from Patea to Tikorangi competing. The football tournament has already also drawn 14 teams, and as the members have been in training for some time past there should be some keen contests, and moreover, az the majority of senior clubs are entered, thfe tournament will provide an opportunity of judging •the standard of play that can be expected in the senior competition matches. Special arrangement's have also been made for the horse events, which are always popular, whilst the dancing competitions have also drawn well, the music for them being provided by the Eltham Pipe Band. Special 'buses froun Hawera will be run to Manaia for the convenience of visitors.
'The following nomination?, were inadvertently omitted from handicaps:—loo yards, E. Beckbessinger, Byds; 220 yards, E. Beckbessinger, 18yds; 440 yards, E. Beckbessinger, 40yds.

MAHOE SPORTS Athletes and axemen are reminded that nominations for the open events at the Matoe sports meeting next Thursday close with the secretary (Mr. S. Kemp, Mahoe) this evening, and as the "prize money offered »s fairly liberal nominations should fill well. AXEMEN'S CARNIVAL AT URENUI. A very attractive programme has been drawn up for the monster axemen’s carnival, which is to be held on the Urenui sports ground on Tuesday, April 19. The chief attraction, and one that should be worth going some distance to see, is the challenge match for £5O aside between R. E. Skewry, the world's champion, and W. Gjeen, the outcome of a challenge issued at the Urenui annual sports. This will assuredly draw a large gathering of axemen from all parts. The committee has put on a programme of chopping and sawing events liberally endowed with prize money. Nominations, closing with Messrs. G. N. Fuller and D. L. Tate, the secretaries, on Friday, April 15, are open, and a light-weight tug-of-war complete a programme- that is sure to attract a large attendance.
