NOTES ON THE RACING. DUO THE VICTOR AGAIN. SILVER LINK’S RECORD TIME. (By Telegraph—Special to News.) Wellington, Last Night. Racing began with the Jumpers’ Flat, for which there were only four starters. Fisher led past the stalid from Lord Nagar, with the two South Islanders several lengths back. Round the back the field bunched, and Lord Nagar look the lead. He was still in command as they turned for home, but inside the distance Fisher ran up alongside him and Fisher won easily by three-quarters of a length from Lord Nagar, who was a head In front of King Star, with Whipcord last, but close up. The New Zealand St. Leger drew only a small field, but it a very interesting race all the way. The contest looked on as one between Duo and Gasbag, ani though this proved to be the case Listowel ran a surprisingly good race. Listowel led at the start and took the rails, with Duo practically alongside. Then came Gasbag, with the only other starter, Halifax, last. At the mile post Duo ran up to Listowel and Halifax got alongside Gasbag. Down the back Duo showed a disposition to go to the front, but Listowel hung on well and was still up with Duo as they turned for home. Below the distance Listowel was done with, but Duo went on beautifully, and all efforts by Gasbag to reduce her lead were ineffectual. Once unore Duo proved, too good for Mr. Williams* representative. He won In great style by a length and a half in 2min. 58 4->sec, the Australasian record time. Listowel was another letiftth away, and Halifax well back.

The Plunket Nursery Handicap was a simple affair for Absurdum, who drew the outer at the barrier, but Gray jumped him out well and was soon in front on the railc.. Purple Spur showed up at the start, but 'jefore the turn the Clifford colt had several in front of him. Gray lete- Absurdum go, and the nippy looking bay left the field by a break of several lengths, and he won easing up by a length and a half. There was a good finish for second place, and Creme <le Menthe got up in time to beat Prince Fe:ouz by a head, with Thespian close up-fourth and Anomaly finishing well fifth. In the Thompson Handicap the course scratchings were Early Dt.wn, Silver Link, and Miss Mimic, leaving a field of seventeen to go to the barrier. The start was a good one, but Bonnetter and Bagdad did not imove off as well as the others. Golden Bubble was quickest to begin, and he led for the first 'furlong and a half, when Askari took up the running. /Askari led into' the straight from Royal St/g, with the field bunching. When they were straightened up for the final run Rouen shot out in the middle of the field, and Tigritiya and Solfanello both improved their positions fast. Solfanello was prominent at the distance, but Askari, was still by front ftnd far from done. Rouen and Askan came on alone to fight for the decision. It was a desperate finish, and Gray rode Rouen very vigorously, and by superior horsemanship rode him in front in the last stride ard won by a head. Bagdad came very fast in the straight and got third just in front of Go'.den Bubble.

The small field of half a dozen went out to contest the North Island Challenge Stakes. Rational was strongly fancied, anc the only other backed to any extent was Silver Link. Rational led at the start from I luto, with Silver Link handy. Rounding the bottom bend Silver Link was running second three lengths behind Rational. Silver Link drew up to Rational at the distance, and in a. good finish won attractively by a head. Pluto was three lengths away third and Kick Off was fourth. The race was run i i the remarkable time of lonin. 25sec, which is a New Zealand record. The Austral an record is held by Remnon, who ran seven furlongs in lmin. 25%sec, at Randwick in September, 1920.

In the Silverstream Handicap Egotism was quickly beaten. Malaga was the firnt to take up the running, and was clear at tlu distance, but Sunny Loch finished well under punish ment, and getting up on the rails, won by a nose. Rada was third and Egotism fourth.

In the Railway Handicap Chrysost-im ran a good race, but failed to stay on over the last furlong. Inah was first to turn for home, and below the distance Chrysostom came through and looked like winning easily. His run was very short, however. This appeared. to leave Inah in a winning position, but Silver Peak came very fast from the back, and cutting the field down in great style, won by a length from Inah, who was half a length ahead of Chrysostom. In the Tinakori Handicap Fabrinade secured a good position in the early stages of the race, and at the bottom of the straight flattered his supporters. Roseday on the rails looked likely to be dangerous, and Mosthenes on the outer was going well, with Makere close up. Roseday failed to get thtougb on the rails, and in a close finish Mosthenes won by a neck from Makere, who beat Fabrinade by a head.
