KARL’S EXIT.

The Ex-Emperor Karl’s departure from Steinamangar was accompanied by moving scenes. His advisers debated the night long the advisability of resisting his departure and marching to Buapest. Karl finally, against the counsels of Colonel Lehar and Count Andrassy, decided, in the interests of the country, to retire from Hungary. A large crowd commenced singing the Hungarian National Anthem. Karl appeared on a balcony and was tremendously cheered. Women and children fell on their knees weeping, and remained so until, the Royal motor started • on the journey. Karl expressed himself convinced that he would return within a brief period and he issued a declaration, which, it is understood, will be published by the Hungarian Goverment, as follows: “I am leaving because of my conviction that the time has hot yer? jome to take over the right of governing, but I cannot permit the maiijtenance of, a right which would entail a disturbance of the present peace. I leave the land as the crowned King of Hungary.” Colonel Lehar, Karl’s most ardent supporter, has resigned from the Hungarian army, ostensibly owing to illhealth, and is voluntarily sharing Karl’s exile.*—Times Service. Ex-Emperor Karl left SteinamangaM accompanied by three Entente officers, a detachment of Entente and 24 officers and men, representing the Austrian Army, the Social Democrat.-, the Christian Socialists, and other sections, who all demanded representative? on board the train.
