PERSONAL.
The Rev. E. S. Harkness, who for the past 10 years has been associated with the Free Church of Tonga, arrived at Auckland from Sydney by the Riverina bn Monday. Mr. Harkness, who is accompanied by Mrs. Harkness and family, has been appointed to the Cape Egmont circuit of the Methodist Church. The Governor-General (Lord Jellicoe) and party received a civc reception in Victoria Square, Westport, yesterday morning. There was a very large gathering of citizens, including 8(50 children. The Governor-General will arrive in Greymouth this evening from Reefton. There will be a reception in the Town Hall, and a dinner and ball on Friday evening. There are arches in the streets and public and prifatq houses are decorated. Lord Jellicoe will leave for Hokitika on Saturday. Mr. Leonard Lloyd, son of Mr. T. Lloyd, of Napier, until twelve months ago chief electrician for Messrs. Jas. J. Niven and Co., Ltd., but now of California, has been promoted from operator to chief electrical engineer of the ,“Big Bend” hydro-electric power station and all transmission lines in and around La® Plumas, of the Great Western Power Co., Las Plumas, California. The Rig Bend hydro station is one of the largest in the world, being 120.000 h.p. at 165,000 volts. Mr. Lloyd is not yet 21 years of age, and reached hisqiresent position after only eight months’ service with the Great Western Power Co. He served hi® time with Messrs. Jas. J. Niven and Co. at their Napier branch.
