FATALITY AT A FIRE.
ELDERLY MAN SUFFOCATED. OUTBREAK AT WELLINGTON. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A fire attended with fatal results occurred in Alma Lane, East Wellington, to-night When the brigade responded to the call they found the interior of a fourroomed house burning and Charles Mitchell, aged GS, residing in the house and occupying the bedroom, was suffocated and subsequently partially burnt before the body was recovered. Deceased Jived with his son and the latter was absent at the time. The fire originated in the bedroom and gallant efforts were made to enter the room, but the heat was too intense and the smoke too dense. Smith was formerly employed on the wharf by the Union Steamship Co. The splendid efforts of the brigade confined the fire to the one house, though others were seriously threatened.
