SUPPLY OF COAL.
ADEQUATE STOCKS IN HAND. NEWCASTLE RESTRICTING EXPORTS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. New Zealand is obtaining very free’ supplies of Newcastle coal and a* a result the coal position is generally much easier. Heavy importations of coal have been made by the Railway Department, which it is estimated has now three to four months’ supply of coal on hand. Inquiries show that there has been a tightening up of the export of coal from Newcastle, and vessels awaiting coal cargoes for New Zealand are being subjected to unfortunate delays. It is apparent Australia has decided to replenish its own depleted stocks before paying attention to the needs of other countries, and it will be another three months before regular shipments will be renewed. Altogether the Newcastle position is very uncertain.
