MAIN TRUNK-RDTORUA LINE. NEW WORK COSTING £429,000 By Telegraph.—Press Assn.— Copyright. Te Awamutu, April 2. The Railway Board has adopted the engineer’s report on the railway connection from the Main Trunk to the existing Rotorua line. Te Awamutu on the former and Putururu on the latter are the connecting points. The length of new construction is 33 miles, and the estimated cost £429.000. The route generally follows the Punui and Owairaka Valley ■ o the Waikato river, and a bridge over the latter is the only engineering difficulty The line will be surveyed to conform to the present Government standard as to grades and curvatures. The maximum grade will be 1 in 100. This railway will open up a large neutral district and reduce the journey to Rotorua from the south by 40 miles and give a slight saving in tne mileage jjoin.
