A cable from London says Lord Chelmsford, formerly Viceroy of India, has received a Viscountcy,
Mr. W. H. Howlett leaves this morning for Patea, where he has been appointed borough electrical engineer. The wife and daughter of the late Mr.' Outred, of Hawera, who were injured in the motor accident in which Mr. Outred was killed, are now out of danger (says a Press telegram from Wellington).
The Mayor (Mr. F. E. Wilson) and the borough general manager (Mr. F. T. Bellringer) returned to New Plymouth by Saturday’s mail train from Wellington, where they interviewed the Prime Minister in regard to finance for the hydo-electric extensions. The report of the deputation will be made at to-night’s meeting of the council.
