NEGRO SENSATIONS.
MURDER TRIAL NEXT WEEKBy Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. New York, March 31. Atlanta messages state that the outstanding feature of the peonage situation is the reported Congressional investigation of peonage systems. There is a rumor that the Klu Klux Klux Klan, which still exists throughout the south as a powerful secret organisation, working along the lines of retributive justice, will take up Williams’ cause and, preliminary to the organisation of vigilance committees in Jasper, Tyler and other counties ;n Georgia will keep the public peace. The fourth of April is fixed fur Williams’ trial.
Williams’ eldest son is a practising physician, who fought in France and won British decorations. Interviewed, he declared that his father was innocent, but admitted the existence of widespread peonage in Jasper County. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
