SHIPS IN PRODUCE TRADE.
NEW LEGISLATION COMING. / COMMISSION CARRIERS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. At the producers’ conference, referr* ing to shipping freights, Mr. Massey dealt with the suggestion that shipping companies should by legislation be declared commission carriers, as was don® in every other country but New Zealand. He eaid instructions had been given to the Law Department to pare the legislation necessary to make the principle that ships are commission carriers apply to this country. Mr. W. D. Lysnar: Would you make them subject to the Commercial Trusts A.ct to prevent rebates? Mr. Massey said he thought the Act applied to them. Mr. Lysnar: I don’t think so, but if it does not will you make the shipping companies subject to it? Mr. Massey: That is a policy matter# It will be considered by Cabinet. Mr. Lysnar pressed to know if itj would be favorably considered. Mr. Massey assured the conference/ that both he and his colleagues would? do their best for the primary tries.
