BUILDING TRADE.

LESS PERMITS LAST MONTH. March was a slack month as far as the issue of building permits in New Plymouth- is concerned, the amount involved being £5500, which is about half of the average which has been maintained for some months pastThis does not mean, however, that the building trade is suffering from depression; on the contrary, all firms have ample work to keep them occupied. Builders are making some leeway with back work, and some of this includes houses for which permits have given in preceding months. Dwellings and additions were responsible for most of the total in March. The aggregate value of buildings for which permits have been issued since the beginning of the year is £25,800.
