HANDLING CASEIN.
CO-OPERATIVE DRYING PLANTS. AGAIN UNDER CONSIDERATION. The question of the erection of cooperative casein drying plants in Taranaki, so that dairy factories now making casein csn have that by-prpduct dried on a co-operative basis, instead of having to dispose of the casein green, has been discussed for some time past by some of the dairy factory directors. They consider that if a success is to be made of dairying it is essential that the producer must get all that is in it and do away with the middle man as far as possible. So far. however, no definite steps have been taken by the co-operative factories as a whole, though the matter has been discussed on various occasions, On Monday it was again placed before representatives of North Taranaki dairy factories, when some discussion ensued as to whether the casein could be treated more efficiently and economically at one central station, or at three stations erected at convenient centres throughout North Taranaki. The general opinion favored the latter proposal, and finally the meeting authorised Messrs. Morton and to make enquiries into the whole matter and bring down a report, which will be submitted to a. meeting to be called later.
