NGAERE SCHOOL.

SHOW AND MEMORIAL TABLET.

The Ngaere School Show took place on Thursday, and a fine exhibition was made. After an exhibition of physical exercises by the seniors of games by the juniors, the children “scored” for points of a dairy cow kindly lent for the occasion by Mr. J. Coleman. Mr. F. Mills, the noted Ayrshire breeder, from Hawera, and a former headmaster of the school, then gave parents and children a most interesting address on the points of any dairy cow, irrespective of breed. A concert by the pupils was followed by the unveiling of a memorial tablet to those old boys of the school who made the “great surrender” —their lives —in the late war. This ceremony was performed by Mr. P. J. White, chairman of the Education Board, who in a telling address evidently inspired by the words on the tablet, “They did their duty/’ urged those present to take their part in the affairs of the community and not leave it to the willing few. Mr. Mills, as an old teacher of the school, reminded the present-day boys and girls that there were higher things in life that the mere acquisition of knowledge, however important that might appear to be. The names ap- i pearing on the tablet are as follow: — Sgt. H. S. Richmond, Privates H. C. Aitken, J. B. Aldridge, V. Brake, M Charter is, C. J. Espiner, E. J. Fryday, H. J. Fever, D. Hill, I.
