WAITARA.
(From Oi* Ow’n Correspondent.) On Good Friday night at St. John’s Church Stainer’s oratoria, “The Crucifixion/'’ was rendered by the combined choirs of the Protestant Churches. The principal soloists were Messrs. Ashworth (tenor) and W. J. Smith (bass). The organ accompaniments were played by Mrs. Marlow. The meeting called for the purpose of forming a rifle club in Waitara was disappointing, only five being present. Lieut. Andrew, V.C., and Sergt.-Major Bell attended the meeting. The enrolment of any other enthusiasts was left, in the hands of the president (Mr. E. George), and the secretary was authorised "to make enquiries regarding rifles and ammunition. The site on the camp reserve granted to the tennis people after a lot of controversy, is now receiving attention by the players. A good deal of work has to be 'done, including a considerable amount of excavation. The club anticipated putting down three grass courts and a croquet lawn, as well as an asphalt court. On Easter Monday six rinks of bowlers went to Inglewood for a friendly game and were defeated by 45 points.
