SWIMMING.

SPORTS AT NEW PLYMOUTH. The final swimming carnival of the season in New Plymouth was held in the municipal swimming baths last night, the sport being marked by keen competition abd excellent finishes. The influence of bringing champion swimmers to New Plymouth has already become noticeable, the local swimmers* having shown great improvement in form, during the last few weeks. During yesterday morning the visiting swimmers (Miss Smith, 'and Mr. Enwright, of Auckland) met the young swimmers, and by explanation and demonstration gave much useful information. At the conclusion of the carnival, Mr. R. Day, chairman of the New Plymouth Swimming Club, thanked the Auckland visitors for their attendance and help, and incidentally mentioned that arrangements yvere in hand for a visit next season of a team of polo players and also a team of lady swimmers. Mr. Day was accorded three hearty cheers for the • successful manner in which he had conducted the recent carnivals. Results: Boys under 14, 33 1-3 yards.—W. Penman 1, J.
