THE FIRST TEST. AUSTRALIA MAKES 273. NEW ZEALAND fl FOR 123, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The first test cricket match between Australia and New Zealand was resumed to-day in fine weather. The attendance totalled 11,000. Liddicutt and Waddy, the overnight not out batsmen, carried Australia’s first innings score from 134 to 186, when the former was bowled by Mcßeth. Kippax was the next man and the pair batted steadily until 209 was reached, when Mcßeth bowled Waddy. Ratcliffe followed, only to see Kippax boiled by Brice—2ll/7/8. Asher joined Ratcliffe and a good stand followed, the board showing 261, when Brice bowled Ratcliffe. Ironmonger followed. He hit lustily but he lost Asher, who was caught beautifully in the slips.— 272/9/22. Hornibrook, the last man, was bowled by Brief, and the innings closed for 273.
New Zealand fared badly at the opening, losing Hiddleston and Sneddon with ten runs on the board. More disaster followed, as at 27 Blunt tipped one into the slips.—27/3/8. Shepherd and Smith took the total to 56 and then Dacro joined Shepherd. A bright partnership ensued, each man being aggressive, and th>“ century was hoisted in 105 minutes*. Dacre was the first to g® and Middleton joined Shepherd, but almost immediately was bowled.
