ORANGE GRAND LODGE.

SESSION AT CHRISTCHURCH. By Telegraph.—Pres* Association Christchurch, Last Night. At the Orange Grand Lodge session a special committee recommended the presentation of some tangible mark of appreciation of the. New Zealand brethren of the valuable services rendered to the Empire by Sir Edward and Lady Carson, and of the* sacrifice they have made on that behalf. The recommendation was adopted and it was decided to proceed with the testimonial by way of a shilling fund, to which contributions are to be invited from every member of the order in New Zealand. The Rev. G. Knowles Smith was elected Grand Master, Rev. F. G. Cumming Deputy Grand Master, Rev. G. K. Aitken Grand Chairman, and Mr. E, N. Budden Grand Secretary. Resolutions were passed congratulating Mr. Massey upon his invitation to the Imperial Conference and expressing the hope that Mr. Massey will unequivocally oppose any concessions to the Irish rebels that would weaken or disintegrate the Empire; calling upon* every member of the Grand Lodge institution to resist and combat as far as possible the disloyal propaganda and! practices of those who are seeking to subvert and overthrow the existing constitution; that with a view of inculcating principles of loyalty to the Empire In the children of the Dominion the Minister for Education be urged to have a Union Jack flown in all State schools’ grounds and the children trained in the practise of saluting the flag; congratulating the Government and Parliament upon their decisions to cancel the special privilege by which Romanist school teachers were allowed to travel free on the railways; requesting the Minister for Education to’ take steps to make British history a compulsory subject for the junior and the senior national scholarship and the public service examinations; deprecating the advocacy of Bolshevism amongst a certain class of .workers in New Zealand.
