The first test match between Australia and New Zealand commenced to-day in the presence of 3000 spectators, whiCh grew to 4600 as the morning progressed.. The wicket was in perfect order. Australia won the toss, and the opening of the match was rather sensational. Richardson and Bogle opened, and off the fourth ball the latter was run out without scaring.—1—3—0. Liddlcutt followed, but Richardson was almost immediately caught brillianitly behind the wickets by Rowntree.—7—2—l. Ransford followed, but with little addition to the score was taken by Smith in slips.—2s—3—4. Lampard joined Liddicutt, and a very useful partnership ensued, the pair carrying the score to 101 at the luncheon interval. On resuming ten runs were added, when Lampard was clean bowled by Brice.—lll—4 —53. Waddy joined Liddicutt, and the pair broi/ght the total to 132, when rain came and interrupted play for the day.
