JAPAN IN THE PACIFIC.
FUTURE CONTROL OF YAP.' NO NAVAL BASE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received March 27, 5.5 p.m . x Tokio, March 26. The Foreign in a statement regarding' the Japanese mandatory intentions at Yap, declares that Japan will promote the moral and material happiness of the inhabitants and supersede the present maladministration with a civil Government. The communique reiterates that Japan has no intention to establish military or paval bases, and calls attention to the exaggerated economic and strategic value of the Island. It might as well be said that the United States obtained control of the Atlantic by the purchase of the Virgin Islands, as say that by the mandate over South Pacific Isles Japan has staked the sea area from Kamchatka to the South Pacific. The Foreign Office denies that Japan is shifting the administrative headquarters in the Marshall Islands from Jaluit to Woese for strategical purposes, or is preventing the landing of foreign mer-chants.—Aus.-N.Z.
