TARANAKI TOURNAMENT. OPENING TO-DAY. The annual Easter golf tournament under the auspices of the New Plymouth Club will commence qn the Waiwakaiho links this morning. The entries exceed those of last year, and the course is in splendid condition. The qualifying roxind of the championship will be played this morning. The sports editor of the Nevr York Times states that if reports .from Chicago are true there will be one golfer in the North and South Open Championships at Pinehurst, North Carolina, who, while he may not capture the winter’s golfing plume, will at least afford the gallary plenty of amusement. He is called the ambi-dexterous golfer, and hails from Australia. His name is Kirkwood. He stopped at Chicago en route to Pinehurst, and furnished an interesting session with so-called boomerang and other freak shots.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
