GERMANY UNREPENTANT.
“A Monument of honor.” London, Feb. 16. The correspondent of the Times at Brussels says that striking proof of how little German mentality has changed, and an invaluable revelation of Germany’s attitude toward the Versailles Treaty, and of the spirit in which she is likely to attempt to fulfil its terms, is afforded in the forthcoming publication of "Versailles; the People’s Commentary on a Dictated Peace.” This is a composite of bitter protest and propaganda by German leaders oi thought and men, each objecting to a certain section of the treaty—Dr. Simons Admiral von Scheer, General von Seekt Count von Bernstorff, General von Lettow Vorbeck, Herr Hoffmann, Dr. Helff erich, Admiral von Reuter, Count Brockdorff Rantzau, and General von Gallwitz. Dr. Simons says .that the enumeration of the contracting States in the preamble of the document, which purposes the humiliation and repression of Germany, is actually a monument of honor for her. “The contents,” he goes on, “provide a series of things only to be characterised as a continuation of the state of war, embracing measures for compulsion and for the sequestration of German private property, and threats of such measures as a guarantee for the fulfilment of the conditions of the treaty.” Admiral von Scheer claims that the Battle of Jutland was a new proof of German thoroughness.
