FITZROY RATEPAYERS’ ASSOCIATION.
THE ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Fitzroy Ratepayers’ Association was held last night, Mr. R. L. Parkin presiding. The annual report stated: It is a matter for regret that more interest has not been taken in the association, and that the general meetings have not been attended by a larger number of ratepayers. A cordial invitation has always been extended to all residents, whether members of the association or not, and free discussion welcomed on all matters pertaining to the welfare of the district. Our district i<s rapidly growing, and yet we have very fevy residents publicspirited enough to offer their services to attend to its wants. The executive has done its best, but has often felt that the support given to it has been very disheartening. Various matters dealt with during the year was referred to. The following officers were elected: President, Mr. R. L. Parkin; committee, Messrs. Steed, E. Dingle, Bullot, A. Roberts; secretary, Mr. 0. Johnson; auditor, Mr. L. A. Nolan. A deputation was appointed to wait upon the postmaster to urge that the new building be altered to allow of the widening of Paynter’s Lane. Messrs. Roberts, Bullot and Martin were appointed a committee to endeavor to secure a shelter shed at Strandon. A meeting of ladies is to be called to formulate a scheme for liquidating the debt on the bathing shed. A letter of congratulation is to be sent to the Fire Brigade for the part they took in the competitionsiat Napier.
