BRITISH COAL INDUSTRY.
ADJUSTING WAGES AND PROFITS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—C6pyrlght. ■Received March 18, 5.5 p.m. London, March 17. The position in regard to the coal negotiations is improving. A joint conference resulted in a scheme which masters and men are discussing separately. Tlie men apparently abandoned the demand for the financial unification of the industry for wages purposes. The masters are willing for a period to allow the whole profits of the industry to he distributed as wages after the minimum standard profit is paid, and aye willing to consider a reduction of this profit, or even to risk the loss of the whole profit for a time. —Aus.-N.Z.
