Advices from Lorenzo Marques state that the body of an unknown Portuguese soldier to be buried in a place of honor in the Pantheon, Lisbon, on April 14, left for Capetown, whence it will be carried by mail steamer. DROUGHT IN SWITZERLAND. London, March 16. Unseasonably springlike weather in western Europe threatens disaster in Switzerland where, owing to a drought unprecedented for a century, the waters of the Rhine and Rhone have subsided and fish are being caught by hand. A large stone is exposed in the Lake of Geneva inscribed with the date of 1862 and the sentence “When I am seen again the world will be in tears.” Hotels are emptying owing to the exodus of Alpinists. Agriculturists are apprehensive of disaster if the rains expected from the Alps are longer delayed.—Reuter. RULE OF MESOPOTAMIA. / London, March 16. The council of the Chamber of Shipping passed a resolution that the exGerman ships allotted to England should not be sold directly or indirectly to Germany.
