PRICE OF BREAD.
OFFICIAL DECLARATION. An Order-in-Council, contained in Gazette Extraordinary issued on day, fixed the maximum price of bread, until further notice at 7d per 21b loaf] when sold over the counter for cash, with an additional id for on de* livery and a further id for booking. Fort the South Island the price is fixed atj 6|d over the counter, 7d for cash on livery, and 7|d booked. From enquiries made by a Daily News reporter last night it was gathered that the price of bread has already been raised in Auckland and Wellington, but that the increased price has not yetj taken effect in Taranaki. However, a New Plymouth baker expressed the opin< ion that the increase would become gem eral shortly. No action has yet beep decided upon in regard to the small goods trade, and it is not yet knowp y how the increase in the price of flour will affect that trade.
