At 'the monthly meeting of the Taranaki Hospital Board yesterday the following names were added to the list of probationers: Misses Grace W. Adkins (Hunterville), Ethel B. Phillips (Waitoitoi).
A cable from San Francisco reports the arrival from Sydney of the Sonoma, whose passengers include the American Davis Cup team and Mr. J. 11. Kirkwood, the Australian golf champion, who is going to England to compete in the . open championship. The report of the matron (Miss Campbell) received at yesterday’s meeting of the Taranaki Hospital Board stated that Nurse King left hospital on February 22, being unable to continue nursing owing to' ill-health. Nurse Harrison severed her connection with the hospital on February 28, owing to private reasons, after six months’ training.
At the meeting of Midhirst Dairy Company shareholders on Monday, the following resolution was passed:
“That tiie members of the Midhirst Cooperative Dairy factory Company, Limited, desire to place on record their keen appreciation of the valuable services rendered by the late Mr. M. D. Powdrell to the Dominion of New Zealand as a whole, and to the Taranaki district in particular, and of the great loss sustained by the whole community by his untimely death, and tlipy also desire to convey to Mrs. Powdrell and the members of her family the deepest sympathy with them in their sad bereavement.”
A recent cable from Copenhagen announced that Princess Margaret of Denmark is engaged to Prince Rene of Bourbon. Princess Margaret, whose name rumor recently coupled with that of the Prince of Wales, is a daughter of Prince Vlademar of Denmark and Princess Marie of Orleans, and is a niece of Queen Alexandra and is a cousin of King George. She is 25 years of age. Prince Rene, who is 27 years of age, is a cadet of the dual line of Bourbon-Parma, being the seventh son of Prince Robert of Bourbon, Duke of Parma, by his second marriage with Princess Marie Antonia, infante of Portugal.
