TARANAKI TOURNAMENT. THE EASTER MEETING. The Taranaki golf tournament, held annually at Easter by the New Plymouth Club, will take place on tjie Walwakalho links on Saturday, Monday and Tuesday, March 26, 28 and 29. The tournament has always been well patronised, and this year the committee anticipate even larger entries than oa previous occasions, enquiries having been already received from prospective competitors as far distant as Wellington and Hamilton. The programme drawn up . offers liberal prizes. On the opening day (Saturday) the event will bb the Taranaki amateur championship, combined with teams’ match and medal handicaps, for which the winner will receive a trophy valued at £5 ss, and the runnerup a trophy valued at £2 2s. In the championship qualifying round of 36 holes (modal play) 16 to qualify, a trophy of the value of £2 2s will be given for the best nett score in each round. Combined with the qualifying rounds a teams’ match will be played, teams to comprise four and to be nominated before Starting In the morning. Any club may enter one or more teams.
On Monday (March 28), the championship will be continued In the second and third rounds, and bogey and medal handicaps will be played. On Tuesday a four-ball bogey handicap, bogey handicap, each of 18 holes, and continuous putting competition figure on the programme. The championship fourth round and final will also be played.
Entries are to be made through club secretaries, and should be forwarded with competitors’ handicaps, by Tuesday, March 23, to the hon. secretary, P.O. Box 141, New Plymouth.
