SOUTH AFRICAN VETERANS.

NORTH TARANAKI BRANCH. At a well-attended and enthusiastic meeting of the North Taranaki braneh of the South African War Veterans’ Association, at the New Plymouth Soldiers’ Club on Saturday, Mr. De Launay presiding, it was decided to hold the second annual re-union dinner on the Friday of April nearest the full moon, April 22, at Kawaroa Park Bungalow, if it is available. Comrade Pike was appointed secretary of the social committee. The secretary gave a resume of the proceedings at the delegates* meeting at Stratford in the latter part of the year 1920. After a short discussion regarding financial arrangements agreed upon at that meeting, it was decided to endorse the action of the delegates from this branch. . , ,

The following motion was carried unanimously: “That the members of Parliament for Taranaki be written to soliciting their support in securing for South African War veterans the same concessions as regard grading and superannuation of civil servants as are being granted to veterans of the Great War.” Some disousaion arose concerning the issue of Queen’s and King’s Medals to South African War veterans. It was thought by some Veterans that differentiation had been made in the issue, but as there was no definite information before the meeting it was decided to leave the matter in abeyance, the secretary explaining that he would communicate with the member for the district, asking him to secure the required information from headquarters.
