Before the Supreme Council, Herr Mayer, the Austrian Chancellor, described Austria’s economic difficulties and pleaded for a comprehensive scheme of assistance. Mr. Lloyd George sympathised and invited the delegates, together with financial experts, to meet Mr. Austin Chamberlain (Chancellor of the Exchequer). As the outcome of a later conference the Allied experts promised to present their respective Governments with suggestions whereby Austria can be effectively assisted. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
