TWO CANDIDATES ANNOUNCED MR. W. MORRISON FOR LIBERALS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. In addition to Colonel MacDonald, Mr. William Morrison, of Maxwellton, who contested the Patea seat against the late Mr. W. D. Powdrell, will stand at the by-election. Mr. T. M. Wilford (leader of the Opposition) announced Mr. Morrison as the official Liberal candidate. Though Colonel MacDonald announces himself as a Reformer no steps have been taken to select the official Reform candidate. Wanganui, March 14. Mr. W. Morrison, chairman of the Waitotara County Council and member of the Harbor Board, announces himself a candidate for the Patea seat in the Liberal interests. Mr. Morrison has contested the seat at the two last elections, but was beaten by a narrow .majority each time. NO MOVE BY LABOR. MR. FITZHERBERT NOT STANDING. In reply to an inquiry yesterday, Mr. P. B. Fitzherbert, of New Plymouth, who contested the Patea seat at the last election in the Labor interests, stated that he had no intention of becoming a candidate at the by-election. Approached by a Daily News reportei an official of the New Plymouth brand of the Labor Party stated that he did not know whether the party had any candidate in view or if they had anj intention of contesting the vacancy.
