STRATFORD AGENCY. Advertisements and items of news for publication in the Taranaki Daily News should be left at the office of our local representatives, Wilson Bros., Broadway, Stratford. While working at the new technical school 'building to-day,, a man named Don Whittington and another workman fell off a scaffold about twelve feet above the ground. Whittington sustained concussion and was taken to the hospital in an unconscious condition, but the other man received only a few abrasions. Whittington regained consciousness after about half-an-hour and is now reported tq, be getting on fairly satisfactorily, his injuries ntft being of a serious nature. A lad named Jack Fitzgerald, of Stratford, while competing in the high jump at the Lowgarth sports on Thursday, met with a bad accident. He had cleared the jump but landed wrongly with the result that he broke his wrist. He was immediately brought back to Stratford, and after his injuries had been attended to by Dr. Steven was sent to his home. At to-day’s meeting of the Eltham County Council, Cr. C. E. McGuinness reported that a deputation from the council had waited on the Stratford County Council at its last meeting with reference to the petition from the settlers on the Finnerty Road, who desired to have their properties transferred from the Stratford County to the Eltham County. The deputation had hoped that it might be possible to come to some amicable arrangement, but the Stratford Council seemed determined to fight the matter to a finish. The Eltham members desired to save the expense of a commission and with the hope of settling the matter amicably had met the ratepayers concerned and persuaded them to send a deputation to the next meeting of the Stratford Council and state their reasons for wanting to join the Eltham County. Cr. Carter, who was one of the deputation, remarked that as the ratepayers appeared determined to get into the Eltham County, he thought it would be difficult to avoid the expense of a commission.

The new concrete bridge across the Waingongora river at the Finnerty Road, which has been erected to replace the bridge washed away last autumn, has now been opened for traffic. Mr. fi. A. Huggins, Comptroller of Money-Orders, who is visiting Taranaki on departmental business, was in Stratford to-day. Mr. R. N. Fryday, a member of the Stratford staff of Messrs. Newton King, Ltd., ha.s been granted three months’ leave of absence, during which he will pay a visit to his brother in Melbourne. On behalf of the staff, Mr. H. E. Abraham, manager of the Stratford office, recently presented Mr. Fryday with a travelling rug. Mr. W. Power has been admitted to full fellowship by the Council of the New Zealand Society of Accountants. A friendly cricket match was played at Victoria Park this afternoon between the Borough Council’s staff and the staff of the Public Works Department, the. latter winning by 25 runs. Th the first innings the council team scored 52 runs, but they went tff pieces in the second innings and W'lre all out for 5 runs, a total of 5'7. The P.W.D. team scored 36 runs in the first innings and 46 in the second, a total of 82 runs. The match was witnessed by a good number of onlookers, and was notable more for good fellowship than good cricket.
