GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL.

SUCCESSFUL GARDEN PARTY. FUNDS FOR BOARDING-HOUSE. The efforts made by the New Plymouth High School Old Girls’ Association in promoting a garden party in support of the boarding-house fund culminated in a very successful function being held on Saturday afternoon in the school grounds. The net takings were approximately £72. Numerous competitions were conducted during the afternoon adding considerable interest to the function, while the enjoyment of patrons generally was contributed to by a musical programme given by the Citizens’ Band. A tennis tournament drew forty entries, and resulted in many interesting contests. Scholars- from the boys and girls schools assisted in various departments and a produce stall was managed by Mrs. Fitzherbert. and Misses Wilson and Douglas. The fancy goods stall was in charge of Misses Pearce, Frank, Peach and Monteath. During the afternoon an exhibition of Swedish drill was given by a squad from the girls’ school, and this proved a feature of the function, the general excellence of the display being very favorably commented on. Results of the competitions were: Tennis—Ladies, Miss E. Griffin, 67 points, 1; Mrs. Stainton (02) 2. Men —Mr. Turner, 66 points, 1; Messrs. Shipton and Edwards equal (56) 2. Croquet golf (prizes donated by Mesdames Bullard, Hutehen and Roekel)—Mr. A. Webster 1; Mrs. Harrison 2; Miss Koch, consolation. Golf putting (Mr. F. S. Johns’ prize)—Miss B. Humphries. Weighing competition, Miss. D. Peach. Competition for lampshade. Mr. Newell. The thanks of the association are due to al! who helped, and especially to the Citizens’ Bend and to Meters. Young *•>4.
