The funeral of the late Mr. John Gibbons-, chief reporter of the Wellington Evening Post for many years, was held yesterday (says a Press telegram). It was large and representative, and messages of condolence and wreaths came from members of Cabinet, Parliament, judiciary, local bodies, many papers throughout the Dominion, the present Chief Justice, representatives of both Houses, the Mayors of Wellington and outside boroughs/ commercial, industrial, and agricultural, industries, all branches- of sport, many pressmen, Wellington special correspondents, and Government departments. The chief mourners were deceased’s brothers, Frank (Auckland), Captain Robert (harbormaster at Gnehunga), Fred (Auckland), his son Kingston.

The funeral of the late Mr. Henry Brown, of Inglewood, which took place at the Inglewdod cemetery on Saturday afternoon, was very largely attended. Among those present was a large number of ex-employees, who came from various parts of Taranaki to pay their last respects- to one who was held in very high esteem by his men for the kindly consideration that he always showed them. A number of veterans also attended. Tiie bearers were all present or ex-employees. . The Rev. R. J. Stanton (vicar of Inglewood) and the Rev. F. G. Harvie (vicar of St. Mary’s) officiated at the graveside, where the hymn “Abide with Me” was sung by the large congregation, led by members of St. Andrew’s choir, the late Mr. Brown having been for many years a lay reader of the church.
