ATHLETICS.
SPORTS AT OPUNAKE. The programme for the athletic sports to be held under the auspices of the Catholic Sports Club at Opunake on Saturday, March 26 (Easter Saturday), appears in another part of this issue, and is well worth perusal. A comprehensive programme of athletic events has been drawn up, whilst a number of liorse events should also attract good entries. Nominations close with the secretary (Mf. Jas. Freyne, Opunake), on Wednesday, March 23. TUG-OF-WAR AT OPUNAKE. JlOarnival queen competition is being held at Opunake to raise funds for tie Seaside Improvement Committee, and the committee’s of the various candidates are leaving no stone unturned to raise money for their candidates. The committee of the town queen (Mrs Lyttle) have organised a grand tug-of-war, which is to be held on April 13, 14, and 15, for which prizes totalling £35 have been devoted. Some few years ago there were some fine tug-of-war teams down the coast, and no doubt they will all get into training at once.
