NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. THE ANNUAL MEETING. . The annual meeting of the New Plymouth Golf Club was held "last night, when there was a large attendance of members. Mr. W. H. Robertshaw presided. THE ANNUAL REPORT. The following report for the year ending December 31, 1920, was submitted on, betalf of the committee by the captain (Mr. W. H. Robertshaw) The year on the whole has been fairly successful. Our tournament was again a pronounced success, allowing a profit of £49 15s 2d. The membership at the close of the season was: Men 106, ladies 67, non-playing 25. Subscriptions were £462 Ils 6d, as against £329 2s 9d for the previous year. The following are the winners of the various championships:—Taranaki champion, G. Gudgeon, Inglewood; club champion, W. H. Robertshaw; junior champion, H. Johnson; ladies’ champion, Miss Brewster. Three debentures were issued during the year, and the committee request those members who do not hold any to favorably consider taking up one or more. A large number of our debenture-holders have either left New Plymouth or discontinued playing golf, and as, under our rules, only debenture holders can be appointed to the committee, it will be seen that the number of active members eligible for election to the executive is very « limited. During the year the committee ob- ; tained a valuation of the links, with a view to buying the freehold, but the price was such that the club could not finance the purchase, and we were unable to make arrangements with our lessees for a sale to them of a portion of the property.
As members- are aware, we received two visits during the season from J. H. Kirkwood, Australasian champion, and h!s play and exhibitions of the various shots were much appreciated by those who witnessed them. We also obtained from him a report, on the course, but whether his Suggestions will be carried out remains for some future committee to decide. It Is interesting to note that Kirkwood considers our course one of the finest in the Dominion.
We have had another change of caretakers, Mr. Barnltt having resigned, and Mr. Currie, of Dunedin, and his family engaged. We regret the death of Mr. A. O. McHardy, one of our young and promisin’ players, and 'desire to express the deepest sympathy with ‘•is parents. We regret to report the following from our membership:—Mr. C. H. Burgess, a past patron, president and .captain of the club, and when resigning he generously donated the debentures held z by him to the value of £3O; Mr. and Mrs. John Paton, who are leaving New Plymouth, both old members who have always taken a great interest in, and given a great deal of time to the club’s affairs. Mr. Paton has for many years been a member of the executive, 1 and bis services will be greatly missed. We wish them every happiness in their new home. The committee have made various attempts to obtain the services of a professional for the coming season, but so far have not been successful. The report and balance-sheet were adopt-, ed. ELECTION OF OI'WCEBS. The following officers were elected: President, Dr. E. A. Walker (re-elected) ; vicepresidents, Dr. Home, Messrs. R. W. D. Robertskaw, and C. H. Weston; captain, Mr. T. P.
