LOCAL BODY LOANS.

RATE OF INTEREST DIFFICULTY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. In the House of Representatives this afternoon, Mr. J. A. Nash (Palmerston North) asked the Premier if power could be given local bodies desiring to raise loans to reduce the term of a loan and increase the rate of interest to six per cent. Mr. Massey, in reply, said there might be great difficulty in complying with the first part of the request, and the law officers were inquiring into the point. As to an increase of interest, he did not believe that if they increased the rate to 8 per cent, it would relieve the financial stringency one little bit.
