Mr. Barwell, in a policy speech, said that the uncompromising attitude of the Government towards direct action had had most satisfactory results. The financial position of the State was sound but the outlook was discouraging. The public debt had increased during the last three years by £600,000. Although he was arranging in London for a loan the policy was to borrow in Australia. It was proposed to increase the salaries of members from £2OO to £4OO annually, the Premiers salary to £l5OO, and those of other Ministers to £l2OO. CANADIAN SHIPPING SERVICE. Sydney, March 10.
