Riley, Pihama, to-day at 5 p.m. The entries for this year’s meeting are first-class, and Mr. H. Coyle’s weights should bring in splendid acceptances. The course at Pihama is Ln good order, and all arrangements for the meeting complete. The secretary advertisesXthat accommodation is available, and patrons may be assured of a warm welcome. ‘TURF TOPICS. (By “Moturoa.”) Rac»s at Invercargill to-day. The Marlborough meeting concludes, tomorrow. Races at Greenmeadows on Friday and Saturday. Weights for the Feilding Easter meeting are due on Monday. “Brone.” Attwood has shifted his team back to Feilding. Richmond Main is reported to be training on splendidly, and all going well he should be heard of this autumn. Mermiri is to race at Riccarton this Easter, where he is engaged in the Champion StaKes and Challenge Stakes. In the latter event he will meet Gloaming. It is a seven furlongs event, and as both have earned the maximum penalty (lOlb) it looks as if Mermin’s hitherto unbeaten record will be "bent” —if not badly broken! Dame rumor started the tale that Punka was so badly injured at Wanganui that she may never race again. As already stated in this column, 1 have it on the best authority that the report (like Mark Twain’s "death”) is greatly, exaggerated. An Auckland paper reports that Glen Canny, who proved a failure last November, is doing good work at present, and is expected to run well at Ellerslie at Easter.

Happy Voyage, the crack Australian pacer, recently met with severe injuries through colliding with the shaft of a cart, and It is expected that he will have to be given a spell. What a rattling good horse he is may be realised when his list of records is considered, the latest of which was 3min. 19sec. for a mile and a half handicap ,agalnst a big field.

Blue Cross, winner of, the Newmarket Handicap, is an aged bay gelding by Linacre— Lady in Blue, and at latest Melbourne advices was one of the fancied lot for the big sprint.

Acceptances for the Napier Park meeting, which takes place on Friday and Saturday, are fairly good, witii the exception of the hurdles. Tfie Cup has attracted fit horses like Maioha, Heathersprig, and Pente, and in the Flying Handicap recent winners such as Early Dawn and Murihiku appear. Haurangi, Valley Rose, The Hawke, Matatane, and Mokattanls figure in the minor events. Mr. G. D. Greenwood purchased a yearling by Comedy King out of Kirkmaiden (by Wallace) at the recent Victorian sales, the price being 225 guineas. On two previous occasions Mr. Greenwood made fortunate purchases at the same sales, securing Biplane for 375 guineas and Gloaming for 230 guineas. Rangitikei weights appeared on Tuesday and appear to be likely to attract good acceptances. Crucelle tops the list in the Cup with 9.0, and might have got in with less. Idle Talk, with 8.13, reads much better, as do Nobleman 8.9, Simon 8.8, Railand 8.3, and Rose Wreath 8.0, Waimatao, with 9.0, would be hard to beat if the sting was out of the ground, but Simonidies 8.13, Murihiku 8.10, and Ngata 7.3, may all prove better at this time of the year. Transmission, Vigllo and Hautawa read well in the Okakea Hurdles, and Voluble is the pick of the Carnarvon Hack field. Automoana, Ngata and Yankee Dan are nicely placed in the Pukenui Welter, and in the Parawanui Welter, Simonidies, Simon and Volube attract most. Gallia, Flying Master and Blrkie are a likely trio in the Ngatiapa Hack Handicap. Acceptances for all events close on Monday, March 14. The erstwhile Taranaki trainer, "Charlie" Miller, left for Levin on Monday, says the Manawatu Daily Times, to take charge of the Levin racecourse. Miller will also train several horses there, his team including American Beauty, Lord Desmond, Rose of Athens, and a couple of two-year-olds. Thea, by Demosthenes—Te Hou Hou, who is engaged in the Trial Plate at the Rangitikei meeting, is still out in the paddock. A Feilding correspondent reports that the training tracks there are in splendid order, and a good number of horses are in steady work in view of Rangitikei and Feilding engagements. Penman is taking up Detroit again very shortly. The ()ld horse, who Is nine years now, appears to be quite sound after his spell. Silver Link has been s paid up for in the Easter Handicap at Auckland, but is a better mare over six furlongs than a mile. Horses that stand out in the Easter are Solfanello, Royal Abbey, and Tinohoro. Polthogue figures in the Brighton Hurdles and Autumn steeples, but may find Slowcoach and Thrace (Hurdles), and Slowcoach and Tenacious (Steeples), too classy for him. Fred Tilley’s pair, Tamatete and Isabel, s.hould go well in the classics at the above meeting.
