SETTLER’S HOME LOST.
FIRE ON VEALE ROAD. NOTHING SAVED FROM HOUSE. A seven-roomed house on the Veale Road, New Plymouth, was totally destroyed by fire on Tuesday morning. The dwelling, which was. the property of Mr. Cecil Wright, of Stratford, was tenanted by Mr. F. Rogers, who was absent from home at the time. The fire was discovered by Mrs. Rogers, who, while engaged with the weekly washing in a detached building, was attracted by a noise and went in to find the house and furniture in flames. It was very fortuate that the baby had been left asleep in a pram outside instead of in the house, as was Mrs. Rogers’ custom. Th© other children were at school. All the family effects were lost, the only salvage being the clothes which comprised the washing. It is understood that the tenants were coveted by an insurance of 'EIOO on the furniture and effects with the Guardian Assurance Company. Instances on the house are not available.
