SWIMMING.

MR GEORGE GREY'S CUP. FIRST EVENT AT EASTER. The first event for the cup presented to tto New Plymouth Swimming Club, by Mr. George Grey, will take place on Easter Saturday. The trophy, which is valued at £lO 10s, has been donated for competition in inter-club waters, and the conditions are as follows: That all competitors or rather competing clubs must bd affil/ated and financial members of the Association; That the competition shall take place in the New Plymouth Swimming Baths; That the event shall be a relajrace, each team to consist of not less than five members, but the exact details and conditions of thb race to be settled by the official centre; That the competition shall take place in the month of February; That the team or club winning the trophy shall have possession of the same until the next annual competition, when it is to be competed for anew; That the centre shall settle the form any inscription on the Cup shall take, and who shall pay for same; That there shall be no entry fee payable for this competition; That any club may enter any number of teams, but that the composition of any team entering shall be given to the centre at least one week prior to the competition, and that no alteration shall be made in same, provided that in nominating a team, substitutes or extra men may oe nominated who may take the places of any m,embers of the team dropping out; A team or club obtaining possession of the Cup, shall be responsible for its production and presence at the annual competition for the ensuing year. The above condition? are not necessarily final. Mr. Grey’s only desire Is to encourage swimming and the formation of district clubs, and affiliation to the governing body. The details, if in any way opposed to the views of experienced swimmers, can be modified.
