A SERIOUS CHARGE By Telegraph— Press Association. Christchurch. Last Night. James Scanlon, aged 36, a native of New Zealand, appeared at the Magistrate’s Court to-day. charged with placing an explosive substance against Arthur’s Pass police station on December 8, with intent to damage it. Scanlon was remanded without bail. POLICE CASES AT PALMERSTON. Palmerston N., March 7. In the Police Court, George Frederick Murphy, who was charged with the theft of money and jewellery from a. hotel, pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme' Court for sentence. Bail was refused. Frederick Robinson was charged with a valueless cheque at Foxton and with breaking, entering and theft at the premises of E. Julian, of Bulls. He admitted the latter charge and was committed for sentence. He pleaded not guilty to the 1 former and was committed for trial. WANGANUI’S RECORD EXPORTS. Wanganui, March 7. The exports from Wanganui for 1920 totalled £4,037,116, a record from the port and considerably in’ excess of the previous year, when the figure was £3,975,354. The port is now the fourth in the Dominion so far a» exports are concerned. Notwithstanding the record shipments the meat and wool stores are practically full. Approximately 30,000 bales of Imperial wool are still in store in addition to last year’s clip.
